Saint Francesco Convent
The church, the monastery and the famous cloister are part of the buildings of san Francesco from Assisi.
The church was built in the XIV century in baroque style, but was completed in 1926 with a white marble façade.
It keeps important works of art like the wooden door (XVI century), two 1700 wall paintings of sant’antonio from padova and san giacomo, and a wooden statue of san Francesco with jesus Christ on the cross.
A bronze statue of the saint, in modern style, made in 1992 by the sculptor alfiero nena, is situated in the space right before the church.
It almost seems to give welcome to the tourist and show him the beautiful 1300 cloister, next to the monastery founded in the VII century and still used by the friars.
The structure presents a big variety of architecture styles, mixed together to create a unique work of art, perfect frame for expositions, concerts and events.
